It seems Brahmapur has turned a safe haven for looters and chain-snatchers. Especially after the elections, the incidents of loot and snatching have increased fast.
Sources said while Pankaj Surekha was returning home along with his wife Jyoti at 10.30 pm on Saturday, a band of three unidentified thugs followed the couple and snatched away Jyoti’s gold chain near a bakery factory in the city’s busiest Bhapur Bazar area before decamping from the spot. When the miscreants snatched the chain, the couple fell on the ground.
They shouted for help, but in vain. Surekha is a business man in the city having his shop on the Dalua Street. On the basis of his complaint, the Town police have registered a case and started an inquiry. There is a strong public perception that the inaction of police and poor patrolling were helping the criminals commit such crimes at increasing frequency.
