Harekrishnapur villagers under Badmal police limits blocked the State Highway 10 in front of the Badmal police station for 6 hours against the death of a 14-year-old boy due to an accident at the Bhushan Steel and Power limited ash pond on Wednesday.

As per reports, on Wednesday morning, Khirod Majhi (14) had gone to the ash pond area to attend nature’s call. In the mean time, one ash loaded Hywa dashed Majhi killing him on the spot. Some contractors wanted to dig the body under the ash. However, they failed in their bid as villagers came to know about it and started an agitation on the SH 10 from 8 am at Badmal with the body in possession demanding compensation for the kin of the diseased.

Sub Collector Sukanta Tripathy, Tehsildar Rajendra Minz with SP Dillip Dep and SDPO Fagua Singh rushed to the spot to control the law and order situation.

They held a meeting with the agitators at 2 pm. But in the meantime, a mob set a bus on fire of the company. As the situation grew tense, police started a lathicharge on the mob and arrested 13.
