The Odisha State Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society ltd (Boyanika) has set a target to organise as many as 82 handloom exhibitions including a national handloom expo and five special expos during the year 2014-15.

As part of this, a 15-day-long special handloom expo has been opened at the BMC Kalyan Mandap, Chandrasekharpur here from September 19 which will culminate on October 3.

This is the second special handloom expo of this financial year organised on the occasion of Durga Puja. Handloom, Textiles and Handicrafts and Mission Shakti Minister Snehangini Chhuria had inaugurated the fair.

The fair is sponsored by the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Union Textiles Ministry and 27 leading Odisha-based PWCS which remains open from 11 am to 9 pm daily while a 10-per cent special rebate is allowed on every purchase for the consumers who throng the event.

Boyanika Managing Director Bibhu Prasad Sarangi said the main aim of organising such events is to provide an opportunity to the primary weavers’ cooperatives, societies/SHGs and leading handloom organisations of the State like Serifed, Sambalpuri Bastralaya and Boyanika to sell different handloom products of the State in a common platform.

The expo is expected to attract people on a large scale across many states.
