Boy thrashed by teacher suffers hearing loss

A father on Wednesday claimed that his 15-year-old son is fast losing his hearing after he was mercilessly thrashed by his schoolteacher inside the classroom a fortnight ago.

Speaking to newsmen here, Amit Das of Friends’ Colony alleged that his son, who is now studying in Class X at the SCB Medical Public School here, was brutally assaulted by the school’s Physics Teacher Rupak Mohanty on July 30. “As the teacher banged my son’s head against the blackboard repeatedly, he has suffered injuries in his left eye and left ear. While the injured eye is now recuperating, my son has now completely lost hearing with his left ear,” Amit told newsmen in the presence of school’s parents’ association members.

Quoting his son, Amit said the concerned teacher was coaxing several students of his class to come to his house for private tuition. “The frustrated teacher was constantly intimidating the students, including my son, on this issue since they had refused to take private tuitions,” Amit said.“On the ill-fated day, the teacher singled out my son and vented out his ire as my son had asked the teacher to clear his doubts on certain chapters,” the father said, adding that he had brought this to the notice of the School Principal, who is now expressing helplessness to take action against the teacher, since the latter has gone underground after putting in his papers.

Finding no other alternative, Amit has now filed a written complaint in the local Mangalabag police station. The police are now investigating the case after registering a case against the concerned teacher and the school principal. When contacted, the police said they have gathered prima facie evidence against the concerned teacher and efforts are on to nab the absconding accused. However, the police claimed that they are yet to find any evidence to book the school principal.
