A minor boy drowned while taking bath in a river on the auspicious occasion of Kartika Purnima in Keonjhar district on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Subham, the only son of Chittaranjan Rout of Nuagarh village under the Ghashipura police limits.
Subham had gone with his family members in wee hours for holy dip and sailing miniature boat in the Kushei river in Anandapur on Kartika Purnima.
While taking bath at Khetrapal Ghat of the river, his legs slipped and he was swept away in the river.
After a long hour of the search operation, locals and Fire Services officials rescued the boy.
They rushed him to the Sub-divisional Hospital, Anandapur, where the doctors declared him dead.
