The Vigilance Special Judge, Phulbani, on Friday convicted Boudh district’s Bahira Gram Panchayat ex-Secretary Kambhu Prasad Danta for misappropriation of 581.37 quintals of rice received under the SGRY amounting to `3,63,358.
The misappropriation was reported during the period June 9, 2002 and July 10, 2004. The rice was received in Bahira GP by the accused for utilisation in different developmental works. Danta had issued 2387.41 kg of rice for different projects, leaving balance of 581.37 quintals of rice and subsequently, he misappropriated the same.
Vigilance Special Judge Pranita Mohanty pronounced the judgment and sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for a year and to pay fine of `5,000 and further to undergo RI for a year and to pay fine of `5,000, if differs he would undergo RI for three months. Both the sentences would run concurrently.
