A 14-year-old girl, who had been kidnapped on the pretext of marriage from her home in Boudh district, has been rescued from Uttar Pradesh after 70 long days.
Police sources said that the minor girl of a village under the Manmunda police station had allegedly been sold in Rajasthan for Rs 1.5 lakh.
The sources said the girl had a love affair with a youth, Bimal Sethi, of Digi village who on May 30 had abducted her from her house on the plea marrying her. They stayed for a night at Sindal village in Subarnapur district. Next morning, they along with another girl went to the Balangir railway station and boarded a train to Rajasthan, where Bimal allegedly sold the minor girl to a person, Dillip Singh, of Balda village for Rs 1.5 lakh. The girl went through tough days as Singh allegedly assaulted her physically and mentally.
However, with help of one Pintu Choudhary, the girl managed to call her brother on August 3. Her brother requested Choudhary to bring her to Bhubaneswar. Later, her father informed about the phone call to the Manmunda police seeking the latter’s help to rescue her.
Acting on the information, a seven-member police team went to Rajasthan on August 4. The cops reached Allahabad, where Pintu was on his way with the girl to Bhubaneswar, and rescued the victim.
