What can be more inhuman than a man leaving his old wife in a totally distressed condition at a hospital merely for liquor?
Such an incidence has occurred at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla.
Uma Rani Kumbhar came from the Padmapur hospital of Bargarh district to the VIMSAR after she got her leg critically fractured in an accident. She came by a 108 ambulance.
Her drunkard husband Naba Kumbhar came in the ambulance. But the moment the patient got down from the ambulance, Naba fled the spot with cash of Rs 20,000 he had brought for treatment of his wife.
This came to the notice of the local police and some social workers, who made every effort to ensure that the woman gets admitted in the hospital and treatment. Narayan Pati, former Councillor of the Burla NAC, also came forward with others to help this distressed woman.
“I have narrated the entire matter to the district Collector of Sambalpur and he has also assured for necessary help,” said Pati. Local people are also coming forward to help the woman, he added.
Doctors have also come forward to treat the woman with all facilities from the hospital under different schemes of the Government.
