Book on tribals presented to Guv

A book on tribals titled Tribal Women livelihood and Development Strategies by Prof Bedabati Mohanty and Dr Trilochan Tripathy was presented to Governor Dr SC Jamir at the Raj Bhavan here on Friday. The book is the outcome of extensive research in eight districts in the State, said Dr Mohanty, a former Economics Professor at the Utkal University. The book focuses on a host of issues relating to tribal women and their livelihood patterns and concludes that development of tribals will remain a dream unless tribal women are engaged in sustainable and effective programmes.

The Governor wanted to know if the tribal youths, once educated in cities, prefer to go back to their areas and community or they forget their roots and stay put in cities. Dr Mohanty explained that though educated tribal people preferring cities to their own surroundings is a fact, the trend is slowly changing. Among others, KIIT founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, former Vice-Chancellor of the Utkal University of Culture Dr Bimalendu Mohanty and Padmashree Dr Debi Prasanna Pattanayak were present.
