Bonei prisoner's mother meets SHRC for justice

The case of Sujit Jojo (35), an under-trial who attempted suicide by jumping from a tree in the Bonei sub-jail premises recently, took a new turn on Thursday as his mother met the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) seeking justice for him.

According to Sujit’s mother Jijina Jojo, Sujit and his friend Madhu Kerketa had gone near to the Dumerta Railway station for evening routine work on July 13 . While returning, they saw a polythene-sheet, which is used to cover goods train, was lying on the ground. Both of them lifted it. Seeing this, two RPF personnel rushed to them and brought them to the RPF station. She said when she went to the police station to know why her son was detained the police told her that she cannot meet Sujit as investigation was on.

When next day she went there she was told that her son and his friend had been forwarded to court on a cable-theft case from the Bimlagarh Railway station.

She said she was shocked to hear this form the police as his son has not even seen the Bimlagarh station. When she along with one of her relatives reached the Bonei court they got to know that her son had been sent to the Bonei jail and his friend to Rourkela.

Stating that her son is qualified and prestige conscious by nature, Jijina said, “It was unbearable on his part to accept a false case and hence, he tried to commit suicide.”

She also apprehended that Sujit might attempted suicide again as he was hand cuffed when taken to the Burla Hospital for treatment after jumping from the tree.

She urged the SHRC to intervene into the matter and give justice to her ‘innocent’ son.
