Bonded labour menace haunts Bargarh family

A case of bonded labour menace haunting a family has come to the fore in Bargarh district with one Biranchi Tandi of Gidhimal under the Gaisilet police limits appealing to the district Collector to rescue his daughter-in-law and granddaughter from a brick kiln at Venkata Puram under Bhemsur police station in Andhra Pradesh’s Khamam district.

According to Biranchi, his son Judhisthira along with his wife and daughter had gone to Venkata Puram to work in a brick kiln owned by one DV Murali on November 2013. later, as Judhisthira (33) diagnosed with Hepatize-B, brick kiln’s manager left him alone at Katabanji Railway station in Bolangir district asking him to return to his village. Subsequently, he was admitted in the VSS Medical College Hospital for treatment and he is still fighting the deadly disease.

Judhisthira’s wife laxmi Tandi (27) and daughter Barsa Tandi (3) are still in the brick kiln.

Biranchi has also brought his grievance to the notice of the labour Department, the police administration and the State Human Right Commission. He has warned to begin a hunger strike before the Collectorate if his daughter-in-law and granddaughter are not rescued soon.
