The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action-taken report from the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Bhadrak district over death of a person and injury of two others in a bomb explosion case on May 8 last in a remote village in the district.

The apex human rights body issued the direction acting on a petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy.

On May 8 last, a person was killed and two others were severely injured in Olagada village under Basudevpur police station in the district, when a bomb went off. The deceased was identified as Ashok, while the injured were Bhagirathi and his grand daughter Jyotsnamayee. The explosion was so serious that it resulted in cracks in the walls of several houses in the village.

How and why such an explosion occurred in such a remote village remains still a mystery. The family members and other victims whose houses were affected have not received any compensation so far, Tripathy contended.

He requested the NHRC to direct the State to investigate the case impartially and ascertain as to how such an incident occurred and direct the Government authorities to pay adequate compensation to the family members of the deceased and the injured, besides the others who have suffered losses.
