The Odisha Rajya Bidyut Upabhokta Mahasangha (ORBUM), a body fighting for cause of genuine power consumers of the State, has opposed the proposed power tariff hike and demanded immediate withdrawal of the proposal of the distribution companies.
Recently, power distribution companies have petitioned the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) urging hike in power tariff for the 2016-17 financial year. The OERC too accepted their petitions and notified dates for public hearing. Sources added that the power distribution companies have proposed a hike of `3.57 per unit in the State. Mahasangha president Panchanan Kanungo in Press release termed the proposal anti-people. Mahasangha convenor and Samajwadi Party State unit president Rabi Behera said the move is only to surpress the failure of the power distribution companies.
