All the six fishermen, who had gone missing in the Bay of Bengal along the Paradip coast on Monday morning after their fishing boat capsized at the Mahanadi mouth near the fishing harbour, later returned to safety.

The Jamboo-based fishing boat, ‘Ramchandi Krupa, was returning to the coast after a fishing expedition when it capsized near the Mahanadi confluence at around 8.30 am after being hit by strong waves, eyewitnesses said.

While three fishermen swam to the shore, the three others who had gone missing were rescued by crew members of another boat coming behind it, informed Paradip Marine police station IIC Manoranjan Choudhury.

All the six crew members belonged to Kharanasi village under Mahakalapada block.

The capsized trawler with the help of another trawler has been anchored at the fishing jetty, said Choudhury.

Notably, a Paradip-based mechanized fishing boat ‘Shrikshetra-5’ had capsized due to sea current at the Mahanadi confluence on June 29. Out of three missing persons, body of one had been fished out.
