BNHS honours CDA chief Nanda

Chilika Development Authority (CDA) Chief Executive Susanta Nanda has been honoured by the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) for his sincere efforts to conserve Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon Chilika lake.

Nanda is on overdrive in clearing the illegal prawn gheries that are choking from the lake, which is one of the world’s finest biodiversity wetlands.

Now, the demolition drive by the CDA and the district authorities has unclogged the lake’s waters by tearing up miles of fine mesh nets. The teams have cleared 160 square kilometer of encroachment in the last 18 months.

The BNHS and the Birdlife presented the award to Nanda in the Annual South East Asian Partnership Meet on Tuesday.
