The Rourkela Ispat Karakhana Karmachari Sangh (RIKKS), an affiliated body of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), has alleged that the NJCS members unions had made a conspiracy to delay the NJCS wage agreement for the SAIl workers.

The NJCS member-unions are the AITUC, CITU, INTUC and the HMS.The union alleged that the steel workers would not have suffered 30 months if the negotiation had started six months before the expiry of the tenure of previous agreement (as per norms) and the fresh agreement had been made in time.“The NJCS leaders suspiciously kept quiet when the MoU proposal, signed on January 25, 2014, was not sent to the Steel Ministry for approval in a week but delayed for months,” a Rourkela Ispat Karakhana Karmachari Sangh release said.

It alleged that the NJCS leaders were intentionally extending the date of agreement to enjoy the attractive TA and DA and sitting allowances.“Even the leaders were not ready to sign the agreement on 1 July, it was only possible after a RIKKS delegation met Union Steel Minister,” it said. The union alleged that fringe benefits of 91 thousand workers amounting to crores of rupees were siphoned off as the leaders didn’t demand the benefit from January 1, 2012.

Similarly, it said conspiracy has been made to siphon off interest amount as the arrears would be paid in two installments. More than 90 per cent workers will lose three per cent increment of their basic, the union said.
