The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), after receiving frequent complaints of unauthorised road cutting and digging and piling of construction materials on the roadside in the city, has decided to take stringent action against the offenders.
The BMC has decided to lodge FIRs against the persons and organisations found digging up or blocking roads for construction, sewerage, laying of cables and pipelines, installing poles without obtaining No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the civic body.
The decision was taken in an interdepartmental coordination meeting presided over by BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange.
All the stakeholders, including government agencies, have been directed to put up barricades at the construction sites for public safety. Moreover, the civic body has directed the agencies to ensure real-time lifting of construction and demolition materials.
The commissioner said that if there is any violation, police complaints would be lodged against the concerned organisation or person. Also, construction materials including sand, soil, gravel and debris cannot be piled on the roadside as it jeopardises public safety.
