BMC to construct four ponds for Durga immersion

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday had a meeting for successful celebration of the coming Durga Puja. Plans were chalked out for repairing of potholes, repairing drive for streetlights and special sanitation drives in each ward.

A special budget of Rs 5 lakh was sanctioned for repairing of potholes and roads in all the 67 wards before the Puja.

As the cracked flyover at Bomikhal is creating problem for the public as the demolished parts have occupied space, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said that BMC would write to the Works Department for clearance of the debris.

It may be noted that a big Puja Mandap is near the sensitive flyover site.

Besides, this year, four temporary ponds would be constructed for idol immersion: two on the Kuakhai riverbank towards Cuttack and each one near the Tankapani Sai temple and river Daya towards Puri. The sizes of the ponds would be larger than previous year’s. The BMC has decided to provide light at the immersion sites.
