BMC to acquire land for drain at Bhagabat Sandhan

Published on:

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) would acquire private land to ensure smooth passage of a drain in the Bhagabat Sandhan area. Senior officials led by Municipal Commissioner Dr Krishan Kumar took stock of the situation in Ward-19 and directed the BMC Drainage Division to submit a report on the drainage issue within a week.

The plan would be undertaken for a new drain at a cost of Rs 2.30 crore. At Bhagabat Sandhan, the existing drain, which carries water up to Gangua, is squeezed at a point to three feet while the initial width is 15 to 20 feet. The area, where the drain is squeezed, would be widened after acquisition of land from private owners. A proper disposal of water would be ensured up to the Gangua nullah. This would also help the nearby Sriram City, which also gets flooded due to the drain near Bhagabat Sandhan.

This new drain is part of the BMC’s plan to have seven more drains across the city with an investment of Rs 9.45 crore.
