After the onset of the monsoon, water-logging problems have gripped many parts of the State capital and brought misery to the residents.
But the BJD-led Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not thought of a permanent solution for it. Unfortunately, it is not in their priority list, slammed the AAP functionaries at a Press conference here on Thursday.
The party said not only water logging but also dumping of garbage has compounded the woes of the residents. This has given rise to the cases of communicable diseases like malaria, typhoid and jaundice and made life of slum dwellers tough.
The party alleged that even after a slight drizzle, most of the road in the city are water logged and the commuters have to wade through knee deep water. Sometimes, this creates traffic jams and lead to stranding of their vehicles.
This also leads to overflowing of drain waters which emits bad smell much to the chagrin of the helpless commuters in the city.
Some days ago, the AAP unit here took a look of different parts of the city. The leaders talked to local residents of different areas and informed the difficulties to the BMC authorities, but no one is cleaning the area and the BMC authorities seem to have no interest to clean, the AAP alleged.
In a meeting held a year ago under the chairmanship of the then Housing and Urban Development Minister Puspendra Singh Deo, a decision was taken to de-silt of drains immediately by June 2016, but till now nothing has been done, the party rued.
After the getting number one Smart City status, the residents have been expecting better sanitation and clean city. But the present situation proves that the State Government, the Union Government and the BMC have no interest in sanitation of the city, said the AAP. It would also create a bad impression on players and tourists from the globe who would be flocking the city for the upcoming Asian Game Championship, they added.
The party also threatened the BMC authorities that if the problems are not solved immediately they would embark on a mass agitation soon.
