The Brahmapur Municipal Corporation has asked ineligible NFSA cardholders to return their cards by January 15 or else action would be taken against them as per law.
“We have asked people to return ration cards if they don’t deserve to hold the same as per the guidelines by January 15. The BMC has opened a helpline for people to inform about ineligible card holders,” BMC Commissioner Manoj Kumar Mohanty told a Press conference here.
People can lodge such complaint through the toll-free numbers 17003456796, he said.
Mohanty said the BMC has received as many as 15,000 applications for inclusion in the NFSA while 29,000 out of 34,000 ration cards have already been distributed and the BMC does not find any information about 2,000 cards. He said inquiries would be conducted on the 15,000 complaints, which include applications for inclusion and plaints against ineligible cardholders.
He said a total of 1.24 lakh people have been covered under the NFSA against the target of 1.88 lakh people. A total of 28 people have returned the NFSA cards by January 4.
