BMC acts against unruly shopkeepers

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities sealed a shop and imposed a fine of Rs 1.20,000 each on 12 other shops at Bapuji Nagar due to their alleged habitual insanitation and encroachment practice.

A BMC official said such acts of shopkeepers put general public in trouble creating traffic and insanitation issues in the locality. BMC staffs and squads are repeatedly providing information and undertaking awareness drives by visiting the area, but many of the shopkeepers are not changing their practices.

During a spot visit of BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange in the morning on Saturday, it came to notice that many shopkeepers are encroaching on public places and disregarding city sanitation. About two weeks before, Additional Commissioner Suryawanshi Mayur Vikash and SE Zone ZDC Priyabrata Padhi had also visited the area and warned the shopkeepers against continuing their practices.
