Farmers of Tarbha block in Subarnapur district on Wednesday locked the main gate of the Balangir District Central Cooperative Bank (BDCC) branch office here and staged a road blockade for two hours in protest against the delay in payment of crop insurance money.

However, Branch Manager Ramkrushna Sahu said the delay has been caused due to low supply of cash from the Balangir main office and hoped that the problem would be resolved soon.

“We are getting Rs 20 lakh a day and able to distribute to only 150 farmers,” said Sahu.

The agitating farmers withdrew the agitation after the bank authorities

assured that farmers would be given crop insurance money upto Rs 20,000 each on Friday and distributed tokens to nearly 100 farmers for the purpose.

Farmers also resented that the Branch Manager is taking police every time they are coming to the bank for claiming insurance money.
