The Odisha Red Cross Blood Bank at the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital in association with the District Blood Donors’ and Motivators’ Forum celebrated the National Blood Donation Day at Koraput recently.
The functionaries of the blood bank, voluntary blood donors and motivators of Koraput, Jeypore, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Bhawanipatna and Dharmagargh joined the zonal level celebration. The day began with a massive awareness rally started from the premises of the collectorate. The rally was flagged off by District Magistrate Sachin Ramchanra Jadhav. People from different walks of life, students, Youth Red Cross (YRC) volunteers, journalists, senior citizens, and members of District Deaf Association, ladies, donors and motivators in large numbers joined the rally and went round the town raising various slogans about voluntary blood donation. Traditional Dhemsa dance and music performance by the participants of the rally was the special attraction. Koraput CDMO Niranjan Dash attended the programme as the chief guest. Sixteen organisations that collected more than 100 units of blood each during 2012 were felicitated. DBDMF president G Sanjeev Kumar presided over the meeting.
