Blood distribution policy demanded

The Orissa Voluntary Blood Donors’ and Motivators’ Association has urged the State Government to put in place a clear policy for blood distribution.

“It is very welcoming that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his party (BJD) MLAs for expediting blood collection through the Jeevan Bindu programme. However, the Government has to adopt a clear policy for distribution of blood so that collection work can be streamlined,” said association founder Dillip Dashsharma.

He said due to lack of a distribution policy, the rate of voluntary donation has not been achieved 100 per cent despite efforts. “Since 2007, only the early average of voluntary donation has remained 70 per cent. The rate was recorded less than average in 2017 and 2018 (67%) and in 2019 (67.5%). A special ‘Blood Policy” needs to be enacted,” said Dashsharma.
