Block Grant teachers' stir on February 10

Opposing the new system of Grant-in-Aid (GIA), the Block Grant Secondary School Teachers and Employees’ Association on Sunday decided to launch a civil disobedience movement in front of the State Assembly on February 10.

Addressing the media, association president Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra alleged that the State Government has very tactfully deceived the senior and experienced teachers of 1,982 Block Grant high schools.

He also alleged that the new GIA orders bear the same principle as it was in the old Block Grant system which lacks the provision of usual DA, annual increment and service benefits as admissible to the employees of aided education institutions as per the GIA Rule 1974 and 1977.

In their five-point charter of demands, the teachers demanded that the Government refrain from imposing any restrictions while allowing GIA to all Block Grant schools and make provision of 100-per cent GIA to all Block Grant recipients and all eligible high schools.
