Three unidentified miscreants shot Pattangi block Congress president Jiban Patnaik dead on Friday evening. Though the exact reason of the murder was not confirmed yet, police suspect it to be an act of Maoists.
Sources said the three miscreants shot Patnaik near Chumuki on Andhra Pradesh- Odisha border resulting in his death on the spot when he was returning to Patangi.
Meanwhile, the police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy and started an investigation to ascertain the reason of the murder. Senior district police officials stated that a case was registered and a manhunt launched to identify the culprits.
