Demands for up-gradation of status of Raibania and Jaleswar are gaining momentum. The residents while demanding block status for Raibania , wanted that sub division status be given to Jaleswar. On Monday, they staged demonstrations in order to press their demands.
Raibania is a tribal dominated patch having 13 GPs located on the other sides of Subarnarekha river. And for them to come to block they have to cover at least 30 km and cross the river to avail block facilities. Although a makeshift tehsil office is functioning in Raibania area yet for several other reasons they have to visit Jaleswar .
Similarly, under Jaleswar block there are 35 GPs and one municipality. Sub treasury office, police sub divisional office, courts and other important offices like RD and irrigation are existing in the block.
Since it is one of the prominent blocks of the district close to the West Bengal border, it should be elevated to a sub division, the agitators demanded.
They, in this regard ,submitted a memorandum to the tehsildar for the Chief Minister.
