A blackbuck deer was killed when hit by an unknown vehicle on NH-16 near the Rushikulya river bridge of Ganjam on Friday.
The Forest Department recovered the deer’s carcass from the accident site and later an autopsy was done.
Notably, the number of the endangered blackbuck deer has been increasing in Ganjam block.
The animals generally move in the foothills of the area for grazing, but they are disturbed due to the rampant digging of red sand by mafias. It is also found that they accidentally go to agriculture lands and roads and re attacked by stray dogs and hit by running vehicles.
