A team of the BJP Krushak Morcha (BKM) leaders headed by BKM State president Maheswar Sahu visited Kalampur block of Kalahandi district on Monday to get firsthand report of crop loss in the district due to cyclone Hudhud.

The team met farmers of the block and discussed with them about their problems.

The farmers said that several acres of vegetable, paddy, cotton and banana crops were damaged in the cyclone as a result of which they would fail to repay their loans in stipulated time.

Sahu consoled the farmers and assured them that the Morcha would raise the issue before the State Government very soon. “If the State Government doesn’t pay heed to our demands, we will take the farmers’ issue to the streets,” said Sahu. BKM members demanded crop loss compensation of `20,000 per acre for paddy growers, `25,000 for cotton farmers, `30,000 for vegetable crops and `50,000 for banana growers.
