A team of the Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha, State unit led by its president Tankadhar Tripathy on Tuesdayurged the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) to intervene in the ‘illegal’ arrest and custodial torture of cattle protection activist Tirtha Kumar Sahu in Rayagada and provide justice to him.

“The Rayagada district Collector tore Sahu’s complaint sheet and thrown at him and even drove away from the grievances cell. Then DSP Shantanu Mohanty and SI Sanjay Mohanty beat him mercilessly and arrested him. They too beat him in the lockup room. As a result, he bled profusely,” the memorandum, submitted to the OHRC, alleged.

It too alleged police have filed false cases against Sahu.

“While a very big racket is working in smuggling of cattle from various places of the State to outside, the illegal arrest of Sahu indicates a nexus between smugglers and Government officer and police. In view o this, Sahu has danger to his life. Kindly intervene and provide justice to him,” demanded the memorandum.
