BJP's stir on, demands Minister's resignation

Even though Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout expressed regret over his remarks allegedly against BJP spokesperson lekhashree Samantsinghar and Anganwadi Workers, the BJP Mahila Morcha continued its agitation and burnt effigy of the BJD leader on Sunday.

The Morcha staged a demonstration in front of Ram Mandir here and reiterated its demand for Rout’s resignation. The protestors also threatened to continue the stir till the Minister resigns.

“The remark of Rout, who holds such an important position in the Government, is unacceptable. We demand his resignation and won’t back out from it,” said a women activist. This is not the first time that he has made such a slanderous remark against women. It needs to be stopped, she added.

Meanwhile, Rout reiterated that his remarks were not intended against anyone. “I didn’t attack anyone personally. I even sought an apology if my words hurt anyone. My duty is to protect the Chief Minister and that’s all I was doing,” clarified the Minister.
