The BJP Yuva Morcha, Brahmapur unit opposed the eviction of slum dwellers in Ward-4 Pichipicha Nagar by the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) and demanded that they be rehabilitated immediately.
Women slum dwellers along with morcha president Sidhant Gangadev on Thursday gheraoed the BeMC office and submitted a memorandum to the BeMC Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore seeking fulfillment of their demands at the earliest.
Morcha members ridiculed the eviction drive saying the Chief Minister had announced not to evict slum dwellers and promised to give pucca houses to them.
They said the slum dwellers had been living there for the last 40 years.
Members demanded that the BeMC include them in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and distribute land records to them. They threatened to intensify the stir if the demands are not fulfilled soon
Among others, Pravat Kiran Sadangi, Rama Kumar Patro, Madan Mohan Patro, Siba Prasad Patro, Kiran Sahu, N Rajendra Kumar and D Sunil Rao were present.
