The BJP Yuva Morcha (BJYM) held a protest at Master Canteen Square here on Monday against the alleged collection of percentage (PC) at various levels in the State in the implementation of welfare programmes.
BJYM activists demanded that the BJD return the amount to the State exchequer.
“The MlAs and Ministers were accepting commission, for which ruling party’s image is tarnished. So, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently asked them to stop the practice. The BJD has admitted that they have looted the State for 17 years,” BJP vice-president Pratap Chandra Sarangi claimed.
The BJP has released an audio to expose such practices of the Government and make people aware about it. However, the BJD rebutted the allegations of the saffron party.
At a Collectors’ Workshop recently, the CM had instructed all Collectors to stop collection of PC at the block level.
leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra had welcomed the Chief Minister’s move but had pitched for an early implementation of the Odisha lokayukta Act, which would help stop the practice of collection of commission. Immediate steps should be taken for enforcing the Act, which has already received the assent of the President, Mishra had reportedly written in a letter. BJD’s Dibyashankar Mishra said, “The BJP has possessed huge black money which is being used in organising its rallies. Our Chief Minister has been fighting corruption from the beginning.
The BJP should support the initiative of the Chief Minister to stop corruption rather than staging such irrelevant protests.”
