Hundreds of Cuttack city BJP workers led by senior party leader Samir Dey on Tuesday staged gheraoed the State police headquarters here that houses the office of the DGP.
The party protested against police inaction in checking the spurt in State-wide violence unleashed by ruling BJD activists apparently being perturbed over the BJP’s phenomenal success in the panchayat elections.
“We protested against the partisan role of the police that turn a blind eye towards the BJD goondaraj,” said Dey, a former Minister and alleged that many senior police officers are acting as ruling party agents. “These officers will not be spared when our party comes to power in 2019,” he warned.
The BJP workers also staged a protest rally and blocked the National Highway at Madhupatna Square for a brief period before burning an effigy of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
