The BJP Mahila Morcha on Monday demanded that the gas companies immediately withdraw the rule that requires the consumers to have Aadhaar number to get cooking gas cylinders at subsidised rate.

Women activists led by Bhubaneswar district BJP Mahila Morcha president Bijaylaxmi Mohapatra submitted a memorandum to the Additional District Collector here to this effect.

“While companies have openly violated the Supreme Court direction, the gas consumers are facing a lot of problems in the State as many people are yet to be covered under the Aadhaar,” a Press release issued by the party said.

The outfit also expressed resentments over the State Government’s silence over the issue just after writing a letter to the Centre to relax the norm. They demanded that the State Government announce its stand soon to relieve the gas consumers from the imbroglio. Among others, corporators Rajlaxmi Nayak and Jyotsnamayee Jena were present.
