The BJP on Monday urged the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) to take stringent action against Dharmasala police station IIC Amitabh Mohapatra for the death of an accused in police custody.
A party team led by spokesperson Dillip Mohanty met the commission and submitted a petition inthis regard.
“IIC Amitabh Mohapatra had taken eight persons, including victim Gayadhar Tarai, to detention in a bomb explosion case occurred in Kududanga village on July 8. Without having any clue, the police beat Gayadhar severely and injured him critically. He was declared dead at the Dhamasala CHC,” the party mentioned in the petition.
Alleging that Gayadhar died after being severely beaten by police, the team requested the commission intervene and take stringent action actions the IIC.
