BJP upbeat after good show in student polls

The victory of the ABVP candidates in the recently concluded students’ union election speaks volume about the organisational discipline and strength of the student wing in the district.

The BJP leaders claim that not only the common voters but also the students and educated youths have started discarding the BJD in the western Odisha and the students union election is a reflection of that. “This will also be the result of the general election just a year after,” claimed a senior youth leader of the party Manas Baxi.

“All influence of the ruling party and its huge amount of money failed to attract the educated youths who have already understood what is what,” he added.

But the BJD leaders rather blame its leaders and the MlAs who hardly consulted with them before the election. “We are not in a position to accumulate even our supporters. The result being they diverted their support to some other organizations and the BJP,” they said.

“Those who are responsible for creating disturbances in the university were given the responsibility of conducting election there and the result is what it was expected,” the dissident group commented.

“No doubt that the CM doesn’t want BJD leaders to be directly or indirectly involved in the students politics. But what our opponents are doing is the opposite and finally they are coming out in the flying colours which is nothing but an insult to us,” they opined further. “In western Odisha, the BJP has shown its strength in the Panchayat election. Now the students’ union election should set the alarm bail ringing for the party if they want to see thing better in 2019,” the local BJD leaders suggested.  But BJP is confident of its strength. “All game plans of BJD will be a sure failure. The Panchayat election showed it and the students union election reinforced it further,” Manas Baxi claims.
