BJP leaders would stage a 12-hour fast before the Raj Bhavan here onNovember 19 (Thursday) to pay tributes to deceased farmers, who have committed suicide for crop loss and loan burden, and wake up the ‘inert’ State Government to resolve farmer issues.
“The State Government is still in deep slumber when more than a hundred of farmers have already committed suicide. Had the Government taken steps at an appropriate time to tackle the already predicted drought situation, farmers would not have committed suicide. The Government has completely failed to resolve farmer problems. To wake it up and to pay homage departed souls (of farmers), BJP leaders will stage a fast at the Raj Bhavan on November 19,” informed a party release.
The decision was taken at a meeting held under chairmanship of party’s State president KV Singh Deo here. Among others, senior leader Bijay Mohapatra, vice-presidents Prithviraj Harichandan and Surama Padhi, general secretary Manmohan Samal, spokespersons Sameer Mohanty and Sajjan Sharama were present.
The BJP’s fast assumes significance as it is scheduled for the same day on which the BJD would hold Chashi Samavesh in Baragarh district.
