BJP to gherao B'swar DM office tomorrow

The BJP Baleswar district unit on Sunday said it would hold a massive rally and gherao the Collectorate here on Tuesday in protest against the alleged failures of the State Government in different fronts.

The party has planned this ahead of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to the district on Friday.

It alleged that the State has witnessed no development in any sector during the BJD’s 16 years’ rule. The Government has failed miserably to address basic issues, be it health, education, agriculture, electricity or irrigation.

“The funds allotted by the Centre towards health and education are being pocketed by middlemen. The money given under the AMRUT scheme is being diverted.  The electricity connection in rural pockets under different schemes not been carried out effectively. The irrigation projects at Bankatira and Subrnarekha are yet to see the light of the day,” alleged party’s district president Madan Mohan Dutta.

“While the Government has failed to establish a single industry in the district, several existing units have either become sick or closed. Though foundation stone was laid for the new bus stand in 2009, it is not yet completed. Drugs and alcohol sales are on the rise here and law and order situation is deteriorating by the day,” he alleged.

Around 15,000 people from across the district would join the agitation, Dutta said.

Similarly, Remuna BJP MlA Gobinda Das alleged that CM Patnaik has only announced schemes and laid foundation stones, which are yet to be turned into reality.

He demanded that fire safety be checked in the Government and private hospitals, shopping malls and high-rise establishments in the district soon.
