BJP to enforce discipline in party ahead of polls

The State BJP on Sunday decided to strengthen the organisation for winning the 2014 elections to the lok Sabha and the Assembly and fix responsibility and accountability on the party leaders.

"The thrust is on the next elections and the State BJP's mission under the leadership of KV Singh Deo is clearly defined. The party will try its best to win the coming polls with collective efforts," said BJP spokesperson Suresh Pujari.

Addressing a Press conference at the State party headquarters here after the conclusion of the first meeting of the newly appointed office-bearers under the chairmanship of president KV Singh Deo, Pujari said that the party prepared a three-pronged strategy to strengthen the BJP ahead of the ensuing elections.

"We will enforce discipline in the party, distribute responsibility among each and every leader and ensure accountability," he said. Pujari said that the BJP would launch a campaign against the BJD Government relating to its all-round failure and the scams in which it is involved. Besides, the party will also sensitise people on the scam-tainted UPA Government at the Centre.

The BJP would take up several issues with a missionary zeal to ensure the defeat of the Naveen Government, he said pointing out at the deterioration of law and order in the State, rise in crime against women, mining, coal and Dal scams.

Pujari said that on the decision of nationwide Jail Bharo agitation demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister for his involvement in the Coalgate, it was decided at the meeting to undertake Jail Bharo agitation in the State from May 27 to 31. The agitation would be held before all the Sub-Divisional headquarters, he informed, adding that the State BJP unit would demand the resignation of the Chief Minister too.

Questioning the propriety of the Chief Minister recommending coal blocks to Jindal Steel and Power and Tata, Pujari said that the recommendation was made just two months before the 2009 general elections without adhering to any rule of law.

There was no MoU, no project and no feasibility report but despite that the coal blocks were allotted. He asked why the law-abiding Chief Minister is reluctant to recommend CBI inquiry into the coal scam.

On the chit fund scam, Pujari sought the Chief Minister to make public the names of the politicians whose names were reported in the media for involvement. Irrespective of party affiliations, the names of the political leaders should be exposed and they be arrested, he demanded.

He also demanded that the State Government should recover the funds from the chit fund companies by confiscating their moveable and immovable properties and form a corpus fund to compensate the affected investors.

Stoutly ruling out the possibility of any sort of alliance with the ruling BJD under Naveen Patnaik and the Jan Morcha, Pujari said the State unit would oppose any decision to forge alliance with the BJD even if it comes from the Central party.

Pujari denied existence of groupism in the BJP though he admitted that there was difference among the leaders on certain issues. However, the new leadership would try to run the party on consensus, he asserted.

Relating to the demolition of religious structures, he urged the State Government to define the orders of the Supreme Court on the issue and take steps to spare those institutions which are not obstructing public places.

The BJP has formed a five-member committee to study the legal aspect of the order of the Supreme Court and the Odisha High Court, he stated.
