A 10-member team of the BJP led by senior leader Bijay Mohapatra on Sunday visited the drought-hit areas in Gunpur of the district to take stock of the situation.
Criticising the State Government’s move on the drought issue, the party leaders alleged that Government officials are assessing the situation without conducting field visits. “Their assessment is confined only to pen and paper. The farmers are now helpless,” Bijay Mohapatra said. “We requested farmers not to commit suicide and to make written complaints over their demands,” he added.
The team demanded waving of all agriculture loans and adequate compensation for the drought-hit farmers.
The team accompanied by other leaders like Bhrugu Baxipatra, Rammurti Gamang and Sishir Gamang discussed with the farmers of Nuagaon, Ramanaguda, Kujendri and Penakam villages and asked them to give written complaints about their problems.
