In the third phase of Panchayat polls on Friday, in which five Zilla Parishad zones of Mayurbhanj went to voting, the BJP has registered a clean sweep, capturing all the five ZP constituencies.
Unlike in the other two phases, in which the BJD had won in four ZP zones, the ruling party drew a blank this time, losing all the zones to the BJP. What was important was that at the end of the phase-3 of the panchayat polls, the BJP’s newly-elected ZP members’ tally has now gone up to 27. The saffron party is just two zones short of the magic figure of 29, which is frequired to form council in Mayurbhanj which has a total of 56 zones.
