Continuing its victory spree, the BJP on Wednesday dealt shock to the ruling BJD by bagging 64 Zilla Parishad (ZP) zones out of the total 174, polling for which was held in the second phase of the three-tier panchayat elections on Wednesday.
While the BJD recorded victory in 93 ZP zones, the Congress bagged only 13 zones in the State. Four ZP zones went to Independent candidates.
In Kalahandi, the saffron party bagged nine more ZP zones in the second phase too. In the first phase, the party witnessed victory in an equal number of zones. The party needs one more zone to form council in the 36-member Kalahandi Zilla Parishad.
