The BJP staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s office at Nuapada on Tuesday on a 35-point charter of demands including issues ranging from agriculture, insurance, input subsidy, health, education to corruption and bad governance.

The demonstration was preceded by a meeting at the police ground where party State president Basanta Panda, national secretary Suresh Pujari, Pradip Naik and Khariar MlA Duryodhan Majhi addressed a public gathering of about 5,000 people.

“The main problems affecting Odisha’s development are floods, cyclone, drought and, more importantly, the BJD. These obstacles have to be removed if Odisha has to develop,” said Pujari.

The demonstrators tried to break the police barricade to rush into the Collectorate when they were informed that the Collector was on leave. Basanta Panda, Pujari and other senior leaders were taken into custody by the police after they submitted a memorandum of demands addressed to the Governor.
