BJP activists on Thursday staged a demonstration at Master Canteen Square here demanding farm loan waiver and interest-free loans to farmers.
Accusing the State Government of turning a blind eye to farmers’ problems, the party said that the Government’s apathy has made the life of the farmers in the State miserable.
“If the BJD Government does not fulfil our demands, the BJP will stage demonstrations across the State,” said National vice-president of BJP Kisan Morcha Maheswar Sahoo.
However in its reaction, the BJD alleged that the Centre is responsible for the plight of the farmers in the State. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to double the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy if voted to power, but he has not taken any initiative towards this,” said BJD spokesperson Sameer Dash.
Notably, the Congress and the BJD have already announced to hold agitations on farmers issues in the State.
