The BJP staged a mass agitation in front of the Kendrapada municipality office, protesting absence of basic amenities like proper road, sanitation and drainage facilities besides apathy in not taking steps to renovate the Kendrapada canal and Madhusagar.
The party men demanded deletion of the ineligible people from beneficiaries’ lists under various Central and State Government schemes meant for the poverty stricken people and transfer of the employees who are working for decades’ long in the civic body office. The Kendrapada Municipality is one of the State’s oldest civic bodies. But due to lack of interest shown by the authority and the district administration, the municipality is reeling under poor civic amenities.
The main road of Kendrapada municipality from Tinimuhani to Ichhapur is lying in dilapidated condition. Even in a slight drizzle, the locals face problems to use the main road that is filled with potholes. To add to the problem is the chocking of existing drains which overflow during rain and water runs over road submerging the surrounding areas, the agitators said and demanded before the Sub Collector to direct a high level inquiry against the Kendrapada Municipality officials, who allegedly gulped funds in connivance with the ruling party leaders and contractors. Led by BJP Nagar president Sillip Kumar Dash, they also demanded cleaning of all drains and measures to restrict dengue outbreak in the township. They also demanded dismissal of Pinu Nayak, women constable, from job for slapping publicly a media personnel and Sarada Samal, steno of SP office, for attacking the BJP district secretary. They also demanded arrest of accused involved in Bibekananda Moharana firing case. They met the SP over their demands.
