BJP slams Govt over BJD Chasi Samavesh

The BJP State unit on Monday passed a draft proposal on farmers’ suicide and drought situation in the State and targeted the ruling BJD for its decision to organise a Chasi Samavesh at Sohela in Bargarh district on November 19.

The draft proposal was passed at the party’s office-bearers’ meeting here.

“The State Government is yet to make any official announcement of drought or send any report relating to drought and farmer suicides to the Centre,” said senior party leader Bijay Mohapatra after the meeting.

Maintaining that the State Government is doing politics over farmers’ suicide cases, Mohapatra said, “The State Government’s doing politics is evident from its decision to hold a Chasi Samavesh at Sohela where too farmers are committing suicide. This means the BJD is going to organise the Samavesh on the bodies of deceased farmers.”

Alleging that the State Government is spending `5 crore to organise the Chasi Samavesh, he said the Government could have saved the 100 families of the deceased farmers by providing Rs 5 lakh to each family with this amount.
