The Belpahad Municipality authorities have once again faced irregularity charges in purchase of goods for public use in the town.
This time, former Councillor Bijya Swain has alleged before Jharsuguda district Collector Parameshwaran B that the municipality has purchased 300 lED bulbs at `38,500 per piece while the actual price of the same is `10,404 only. Duplicate price stickers have been glued over the original stickers on bulb packets, he alleged.
According to Executive Officer Tapas Ranjan Jena, the municipality has so far paid `70 lakh to the supplier for purchase of lEDs bulbs.
On Thursday, a delegation of local BJP leaders met the Collector and handed over a memorandum requesting him to recommend a Vigilance probe into the alleged scam.
Meanwhile, Municipality Chairman Parsuram Sahu said that any type of inquiry would be welcomed by him.
Earlier, it had been alleged that the municipality had dug 40 deep bore wells without inviting a tender.
