BJP seeks reservation for OBC med students

Published on:

The BJP State OBC Morcha on Monday announced that unless the State Government comes out with reservation for OBC students in education, especially in medical studies, it would launch an agitation over the issue.

In a Press conference, Morcha president Surath Biswal asked that while all States have reservation for OBC students and when the Union Government favoured 27% reservation and the Supreme Court approved it, what prevented the Odisha Government to announce the same.

He questioned the silence of the State Government in this issue when medical counselling is going on at the national level and students of Odisha are participating in it. He demanded a statement in this regard from the ruling BJD.

Biswal stated that the State Government by its habitual practice by blaming the Central Government and in the name of Supreme Court judgment is trying to escape from the core issue while providing reservation is the State Government’s responsibility based on its own surveys. It has nothing to do with the Central Government conducting a caste census or not, he added.
